BACKGROUND NOTES

The origin of SpiceJet dates back to 1984 when it was incorporated as Genius Leasing Finance and Investment Company Ltd. In 1993, the company ventured into domestic aviation operations under technical partnership with Deutsche Lufthansa AG (Lufthansa). In 1994, the name of the company was changed from MG Express to ModiLuft Ltd. However, ModiLuft suspended its airline operations in 1996 owing to some disagreements with Lufthansa. The ownership changed hands due to lack of funds and the company was renamed Royal Airways Ltd. in 2001. During this time, Ajay Singh (Singh), who had earlier worked on the board of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and as an advisor to the Telecom Ministry in India, entered the scene....
